This past Friday, Virta Health joined with Purdue University in announcing that Purdue is making Virta’s online diabetes clinic available to all clinically-eligible employees and dependents.

Virta is a next-generation healthcare provider who has made the commitment to do something truly extraordinary—fundamentally reduce the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the United States, without requiring expensive and costly diabetes drugs or surgeries. Type 2 diabetes affects more than 29 million Americans, at a cost of more than $245 billion per year.1

Virta will accomplish its ambitious goal by enrolling millions of individuals with type 2 diabetes in its online clinic, which is a medical intervention focused on reversing the disease in as many patients as possible. In an ongoing clinical trial, recently-published 70-day results suggest diabetes reversal rates of greater than 50% among those enrolled in the Virta Clinic.

Virta works with a variety of institutions to make its online diabetes clinic available to individuals living with type 2 diabetes. Employers like Purdue see the potential for Virta to:

  • Lower medical and pharmacy costs for type 2 diabetes
  • Improve worker presenteeism and productivity
  • Reduce workplace safety risks and workers’ compensation claims
  • Boost workplace morale and engender a vibrant employee culture

Purdue is an institution with a history of profound societal impact. It is a US leader in engineering, education, and business. Among many other accomplishments, Purdue boasts more US astronauts than any other US university, including Neil Armstrong, the first man to the moon. As Virta seeks to execute its own ‘moon shot’ amidst the US diabetes epidemic, we are so proud to be partnering with Purdue!
